Making an informed career choice in pharmacy starts with understanding two key things: the profession and your personal goals/interests. The APhA Career Pathways Program isn’t designed to give you an instant answer or a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, it serves as a valuable starting point that offers insights, tools, and guidance to help you explore your options and continue your journey of discovery.

By completing the program’s online assessment, exercises, and participating in the workshop, you’ll gain meaningful knowledge about various pharmacy practice areas. More importantly, you’ll develop a clearer sense of how to evaluate and choose a pharmacy career path that aligns with who you are and what you want from your professional life.

Our online assessment helps you uncover your goals, values, strengths, and interests by rating critical factors that reflect the diverse and meaningful aspects of work conducted by pharmacists in a variety of practice settings.

Explore a wide range of pharmacy career paths from academia to specialty pharmacy, and discover the roles that match your passion, skills, and goals.

Program materials for participants

APhA’s Career Pathways Program offers a combination of written and online exercises and resource materials to assist participants in the decision-making process.

Briefing document 

The briefing document contains some basic concepts and exercises that will prepare you for the workshop. Exercises should require less than an hour of your time and will provide you with a good start to your decision-making process.

Workshop workbook 

The workshop you are attending will provide you with information on a five-step decision-making process designed to help you make better informed career decisions.

Follow-up materials 

Tools for self-assessment, rating and working the critical factors, career profile assessments, and suggested readings are available in our follow-up materials.

Program materials for facilitators

Resources are available for faculty members to facilitate the APhA Career Pathways Program at your school or college of pharmacy. All faculty members are encouraged to attend a facilitator’s training program prior to utilizing the materials.
